Burger & Lobster | West India Quay | London

Yum yum yum yum yum!! <- That’s it! That is all I have to say! Post over!

OK I will elaborate a bit more! Burger and Lobster have recently opened a new restaurant in West India Quay/Canary Wharf which just happens to be nice and local for us. So on a lovely sunny Sunday, Jack and I decided to head over and try it out. We were seated straight away in the non-smoking outdoor area (exactly where we wanted) and left to ponder the menus.

I have never been to one of these restaurants before but Jack has and he was pleasantly surprised that the menu was slightly bigger (the waiter told us that this new menu was going to be rolled out across the rest of the sites). The menu was a little vague but, it did mean that when the waiter came over he was able to spend the time telling us the difference between each dish and the specials. We ordered drinks which both came promptly and then a few minuets after we ordered our mains.

I ordered the Canary Wharf Combo which was a small burger (They Mayfair) and a small lobster (The pounder). I had never really eaten lobster before so wanted to try it in a way that if I didn’t like it I still had a good meal and this was perfect for that. Jack ordered the beast burger (original burger with cheese, bacon and lobster) and it really was a beast!

We didn’t have to wait too long for our meals and the presentation was lovely, after donning our bibs we dug in (we didn't really wear the bibs!). The burgers were delicious they were moist, tasteful, cooked perfectly to our specifications and just overall delicious. When it came to eating the lobster I hand no clue what to do!! They had given me this strange looking tool and I improvised by prodding and pulling at the meat with it and once (I think) I got the hang of it, it was really easy to get at the meat. Obviously being a noob with lobster I don’t know what is good and what is not, but it was enjoyable. It had a taste of fish (so wouldn’t recommend to those who don’t like that taste) and a slightly chewy texture. For me on its own it was slightly too fishy but, it came with this delicious sauce which made it taste wonderful. As you can probably guess after all this we were stuffed so didn’t have any pudding!

Now this was not a cheap meal. In total it came to around £80. Jack was already aware of the price range that burger and lobster sat in so we weren’t too surprised and it was a really lovely setting, with friendly staff and super tasteful food to justify it. That being said it may be more of an occasional visit and not your weekly outing due to the price tag (unless you are rolling in it!). I would love to go back to burger and lobster, though maybe the little burger (with cheese and bacon!) would be enough for me to keep the portions and price down.

Arstiderna i Kockska Huset | Malmo | Sweeden

My boyfriend and I were in Malmo last weekend as a little city get away. It was a lovely little break in such a beautiful city (Check out my Instagram photos and see for yourself).

On our final night we decided to head out to a nice restaurant in the town. The lonely planet guide that we had, suggested Arstiderna i Kockska Huset. In the guide the restaurant is described as a €€€ Swedish restaurant that serves meals in the vaults beneath Kockska Huset, food is upscale Swedish and the atmosphere is classic with crisp white tablecloths and quietly professional service. So out we went.

We wanted an early dinner (so we could watch the football YAY!! *not*) and decided to attempt to get a table without booking. When walking up to the restaurant it is not obvious at first that it is an eatery, but once you venture down the stairs it opens up into the vaults, it looks like an old wine cellar with curved ceiling and arches. A very friendly man helped us and took us to our table with was nice, not too close to any others and beautifully laid. We were given menus and left to make a decision. After ordering drinks we were ready to order mains. There was a nice choice on the menu, not too much but a nice selection with Swedish specialties as well as more standard meals. Jack went for the veal and I decided to try the reindeer. While waiting for the meals we were given some warm bread and then a nice little appetizers, which was a nice little touch.

The mains did not take long to come, there were not many others in the restaurant though. The food was presented beautifully and the waitress took the time to tell us about the food that we had. Both meals were delicious and we would both recommend what we had.

Once mains were cleared we decided to have some puddings, as I have a super big sweet tooth. Again the selection was great and I was torn between the crème brule and the soufflé. I ended up going for the Strawberry soufflé, while jack had some truffles. Again both were delicious and bursting with flavours.

The staff were very friendly, they did speak to us in Swedish to start (perhaps we looked like locals), however when we apologised and said we didn’t understand they all were very happy to speak English which they were all great at (and we appreciated immensely!). In terms of costs this was not a cheap place to eat, but we knew that before going, with the price of the meal rounding to about 1000 SKR (£85).

Overall this was a lovely evening out with delicious food in a great establishment. I would highly recommend to go to Arstiderna i Kockska Huset if you are in Malmo and are looking for a nice place to eat. Here are a couple of photos from the evening:

Arstiderna i Kockska Huset

Porky's BBQ | BoxPark Shoreditch | London

One Sunday a couple of weeks ago Jack and I went for a wonder around Columbia Road flower market and ended up walking to BOXPARK in Shoreditch and after having a wonder around the restaurants we settled on Porky's BBQ as our lunch spot.

First off the setting was lovely, once you had gotten used to the rickety benches, it was inside-outside- esque with heat lamps warming the seating area up, but still able to watch the outside world, it was really nice.

The waitress was attentive and came over straight away to offer drinks and suggested a delicious rum based cocktail as I didn’t know what I wanted and it was so yummy. We then both ordered the Porky's burger which is a beef burger, topped with pulled pork, bacon and cheese, as well as a side of sweet potato fries and pork scratching’s.

The food came out in good time – but not too quick and it was delicious. The burger was fresh and the bacon was the perfect crispiness. The sides were great too and even if you were just there for a snack get the pork scratching as they were melt in your mouth!

Overall this was a lovely place to eat and I would thoroughly recommend it. BOXPARK was also a very exciting place that is well worth a visit and we will be back to Porky's BBQ again and we will check out the other eateries in the BOXPARK complex.
