Face Of The Day | Casual Day

Today's post is another little face of the day. I really liked how my make-up turned out today so I wanted to share it (not that I'm blowing my own trumpet)! It’s a natural everyday kind of look perfect for work or just a casual day shopping.

This is everything I used (minus a few brushes):

I started off with Benefits The POREfessional and followed up with LancĂ´me Teint Idol Ultra 24H, MAC studio fix powder, Bourjois bronzing powder and MAC blush in Mocha.

I wanted to create a natural look and used the Naked 3pallet using the colour Limit all over the lid and then Nooner in the crease. I did a quick cat eye line with L’Oreal Superliner So Couture and then lined my water-line and tight-line with Maybelline Eyestudio gel liner and then applied 2 coats of L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes waterproof mascara.

As I wanted a natural look I used MAC Plumful and I think it pulls the whole look together nicely.

Review | MAC Lipstick: Plumful

This little beauty is a guy that I have been lusting after for months slowly walking past MAC counters, and swatching it at every chance I got, after I set eyes on it while browsing the website, but alas I had to hold back for a little while…Until I picked it up in duty free on my way on holiday. The duty free price I paid for it makes me love it even more!

Plumful is a blossoming rose-plum colour in a lustre finish giving it a glowy sheen. I was after a perfect berry everyday autumn/winter shade and Plumful certainly fits the bill. It has a smooth application and lasts a good amount of time on the lips, you will need to top it up during the day but, it wears evenly so there won’t be any kind of lip liner effect left on your lips if you are a bit late in re-application. I feel it is a colour that is completely wearable during the day but also one you can dress up with a darker eye to give a sultrier look.

I am already in love with this colour for Autumn and look forward to opportunities to wear it at £15.50 MAC lipsticks are a little pricy but well worth it when you find one you love.
Have you tried Plumful? What is your favourite Autumn/Winter lipstick?

Outfit | Evenings Out In Dubai

This is a little outfit that I fell in love with when I purchased it! Everything is from New Look and I love how it is simple yet still elegant. My favourite part is the shoes as I love the 2 little strap look!

I wore this outfit on a couple of occasions while on holiday in Dubai and felt great in it.

The top is a light chiffon material so I needed to wear a bandeau underneath. The gem detailing always caught the light and just gave the outfit enough bling without going overboard. On this night I had BarryM Greenberry Nail polish on my nails and also wore some simple dangle earrings from Boots and my Pandora bracelet.
Here are some photos of it:

A special Thanks to Jack for taking these photos for me! :)

Review | Charles Worthington: Salon at Home Shampoo, Conditioner & Masque

I was in desperate need of some new shampoo and conditioner and was devastated to find that boots had run out of my favourite TRESemme Keratin Smooth shampoo and conditioner so I was on the hunt for something new! The Charles Worthington range jumped out at me for the fact it was on 3 for £12 so I buckled under the pressure and picked up the Moisture Seal Shampoo and conditioner as well as the Strength and Repair Longer and Stronger Hair Masque, I would have picked a matching range but unfortunately boots yet again failed me and didn’t have a full rang. Here are my thoughts on each.

Moisture Seal Shampoo and Conditioner

This was the sub-brand that really stood out to me it looked summery and with a heat protecting conditioning complex and being enriched with argan oil I was super excited to try these. The bottels say that they give luscious moisturisation, intense nourishment and manageability improvement.

First off I hate this packaging, OK it looks swish and modern, but it is difficult to get the desired amount of product out without some serious force! However if the product is great bad packaging is easily ignored, I just am not feeling that both the shampoo and conditioner are anything special. The shampoo doesn’t lather much (which does tend to indicate that there is likely to be fewer, nasty chemicals in it) this does take some getting used to, but it also means I tend to use more product than I normally would to achieve the ‘clean’ feeling.
The scent isn’t anything to write home about either, although light and pleasant it is not a smell that inspires you or lingers on the hair making you feel gorgeous all day. As for the conditioner it does very little conditioning and I need a considerable amount of product to achieve any form of conditioned, soft, light feeling. So overall both products do keep my hair clean and as always I will be finishing them but will not repurchase this particular brand from Charles Worthington. The Shampoo and Conditioner retails for £5.99 (250ml) each.

Strength and Repair Longer and Stronger Hair Masque

The concept of this masque stood out which is why I picked it, I really want long healthy hair and the promise of ‘enhanced strength of damaged hair and increased resistance to damaged hair’ really appealed to help my hair grow beautifully.

Over all this is a completely different story from the mini review above as I love this packaging! The easy flip lid makes applying in the shower so easy as there is no faffing with screw caps and getting water in the product. The masque is thicker than others I have tried, but I did like that as it felt like it all stayed put in my hair while letting it work it’s magic. Once washing it off my hair does feel silky smooth, looked after and light which is a nice pampering feeling. However due to the inadequacies of the Conditioner mentioned above I have been using this every time I was my hair (2-3 times a week) which does mean it runs out pretty quickly. The smell of the masque is slightly nicer though still not super exciting , but it does linger slightly longer than the others and just gives off a bit of a ‘clean’ scent. I do feel that my hair has been stronger with fewer breakages since using this product.

The Hair Masque retails for £5.99 (160ml) and I would be willing to pay that price for how it has worked. I would repurchase this masque and I would like to try more from the Longer and Stronger line to see if that range works better for my hair type.

I hope these mini (or not so mini) reviews have been helpful!

Have you tried any of the Charles Worthington products? What are your views on them and which is your favourite line?

Review | Urban Decay Naked 3 Pallet

This is only my second ever eye-shadow pallet and 2nd from urban decay, but I really wanted to try this long awaited pallet (that came out December 2013, I’m the one behind on the times) that beauty bloggers have been going wild over and after finally saving up the £37 for it in July I have been using it since.

This pallet has a distinct rose gold feel about it, With the packaging being a really nice rose gold coloured tin (I have however managed to break mine already), a large mirror, a really nice double ended eye-shadow brush and most importantly 12, 1.3g eye shadows that are all perfectly wearable, and as always from urban decay it is all ahhhhh-mazing quality! All the shades have pinkish undertones which concerned me a bit when I first started using it, but I have quickly become used to working with the colours and have fallen in love with so many of them! There are only 3 truly matt shades and one matt with glitter sparkles in it which coule be a downside to this pallet but not a big issue for me.

The colours L –R are:
  • Strange: Pale neutral pink matte-satin
  • Dust: Pale metallic pink shimmer with iridescent micro-glitter
  • Burnout: Light pinky-peach satin
  • Limit: Light dusty rose matte
  • Buzz: Metallic rose shimmer with silver micro-glitter
  • Trick: Light metallic pinky-copper shimmer with tonal micro-sparkle
  • Nooner: Medium pinky-brown matte
  • Liar: Medium metallic mauve shimmer
  • Factory: Pinky-brown satin
  • Mugshot: Metallic taupe shimmer with slight pink shift
  • Darkside: Deep taupe-mauve satin
  • Darkheart: Smoky black matte with rosy red micro-sparkle

My favourite colours are Trick, Liar, Factory and Mugshot which all work amazingly well together for a dark-ish smoky look. I also love the beautiful highlight colour Strange which looks perfect on the inner corner of the eye and to highlight the brow bone.

L-R Strange, Dust, Burnout, Limit, Buzz, Trick, Nooner, Liar, Factory, Mugshot, Darkside, Blackheart.
Swatched in natural light
Overall I think this is a great pallet and well worth the £37 (considering 12 single UD eye-shadows would come to lots more). The colours all complement each other and many skin-tones. The shadows are buttery, easily applied, very well pigmented and last a long time on the lid without creasing. I however would not really call it a truly neutrals pallet because of the distinct pink undertone of all the shadows which could be slightly daunting for those new to make-up.

I would always recommend Urban Decay products as I love the quality of them and this pallet is no different.

Have you used the UD Naked 3 Pallet? What are your favourite colour combinations and thoughts on it?

Review | Urban Decay: All Nighter Make-Up Setting Spray

This was a little treat to my-self halfway through the summer to find out what all the fuss was about with this product, and to help stop may make-up sweating off my face during the heat. The lady at the urban decay counter pointed me towards this version out of the 3 they offer as the best to work for me so I took her word and purchased the 118ml bottle for £20.

Is it something I use every day? No it’s not I tend to use it on nights out, long days and special occasions when I need my makeup to last and look flawless that little bit longer.

However it is a product that I enjoy using. It is a make-up setting spray which is designed to preserve just applied make-up and protect it from moisture, wind and heat, weightlessly ensuring that make-up lasts for up to 16 hours.

It advises to apply in a T and X motion to ensure the light mist covers the entire face. I really like applying this to my face as it has a really nice cooling affect and does help to control the oil particularly on my T-zone during the day which does therefore help my make-up stay on and look fresher for longer.

Overall I do like this product and find it does help and make my face of make-up look fresher, reduce creasing, and lasts longer, although it doesn’t look as fresh 16 hours in as straight after application, it does make a considerable difference. I would recommend this, and the rest of the range, for special occasions however I don’t feel it is an everyday kind of product as it would start to feel like it doesn’t do anything. At £20 (118ml) it is a little pricy but the bottle is big enough to last a considerable amount of time!

Have you tried any of the Urban Decay Make-Up Setting Sprays? What are your views on them?

Review | Garnier Express 2 in 1 Eye Make-up Remover

I’m still on the search for the perfect eye make-up remover to remove waterproof mascara and this is the newest one that I have fallen in love with.

I picked up the Garnier Express 2 in 1 Eye Make-Up Remover simply because of the price tag being £2.33 (usually £3.49 125ml) from Boots, and as I had not tried it before. I have been so impressed that this is already my second bottle of the product!

As most waterproof make-up removers this is a dual-phased formula which needs to be mixed to activate. After which only a few drops of the product is required to remove a full eye of make-up including waterproof mascara, without rubbing which super impressed me. It removes every last trace of make-up so there are no panda eyes in the morning

I found it does leave a very slight, but light, oily feeling on the eye it is however nowhere near the amount that other leave, and is easily removed with a splash of water.
This product also claims to protect eyelashes within 4 weeks due to it being enriched with naturally derived Arginine leaving them feeling cleansed and cared for.

2 Phases Mixed
I think this is a great product, as seen in that I have already repurchased it. It is cheap, gentle and does a great job, I would recommend it to everyone and is already my favourite of the ones I have tried.

Have you tried the Garnier Express 2 in 1 Eye Make-Up Remover? What are your thoughts on it?

Review | Benefit The POREfessional

This product seems to be in everyone’s make-up bag and I have only recently decided to invest the £24.50 (22ml) into one. I got mine from the benefit counter in Debenhams but it is widely available in lots of shops and online.

For those who don’t know this product is a pro balm that aims to minimize the appearance of pores and primes the skin before make-up application. It states to be oil-fee, light-weight , translucent and silky and in my opinion it is all 4 of theses. It works by ,effectively, being a bit of poly-filler for your face, filling in large pores, lines and smoothing the surface of your skin.

This is awesome as it creates a smooth surface for foundation application to give a really flawless base. The feeling of this product is amazing and just a tiny amount makes your skin feel like its entered a silk invasion and instantly boosts confidence. I feel my makeup lasts and looks fresher for a whole lot longer when I use this compared to when I don’t.

The one down side to this (other than the price) is that it doesn’t get rid of pores only hides them and this is important to remember that this product is not a long term solution for those with large pores, but a way to cover them and blur them into the skin.

Like I mentioned this is a product on the pricier side of things (in my opinion), however due to only needing a small amount per application it does last a considerable while. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a primer and pore minimiser that can afford to splash out on something of this calibre. However for people on more of a budget there are so many great primers on the high street that I feel do a similar enough job for a lot cheaper, for example, Maybelline Baby Skin

What are your thoughts of The POREfessional?

MAC Lipstick | Girl About Town

This post has been a little long in the making, but this is the newest addition to my Lipstick collection. I purchased this for my graduation day as it was pretty, summery and went well with my outfit.

MAC describes it as a ‘bright blue fuchsia’ which translates to a pretty berry pink colour, it is an amplified creme finish and this means it’s super creamy and moisturising on the lips. I find it such a wearable colour for daytime and night, although I do feel it leans more towards summertime wearing.

The pigmentation is great and one swipe gives a bright opaque colour that last all day with application only needed after eating and drinking.

This is quickly becoming a top favourite within my lipsticks and I would recommend it to anyone!
